And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Genesis 3:8(AMP)
These scriptures always display to us the moment when paradise becomes chaos. The unfortunate moment where good and evil are discerned and the peaceful garden of mankind, turns into the ongoing chaotic battle of good and evil. To wonder what it would have been like had she not eaten, had they both looked away, had paradise been undisturbed.
I also wonder, what it must have been like prior to The Fall. The countless times they heard God “walking in the garden in the cool of the day” and they were overjoyed to hear HIM. To hear HIM walking, coming, calling and to not be afraid.
This journey of sprint turned marathon becomes more blessed everyday. The being settling due to physical and spiritual maturing, and the pace steadies as tractor girl slowly steps in stride with HIS footsteps. The prior days of chaos due to the results of The Fall slowly become distant to the ear. And I listen for HIM. I listen for HIS footsteps in the garden.
“I come to the garden alone.”
Each day, when baby is down for morning nap, my soul is pulled outside to the garden. No matter what needs to be done, I go there. I want to be there. For, there HE is walking in the garden. And, I go there alone. As I pull up weeds, I sit at HIS feet and listen to HIS teachings.
“And the joys we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.”
To be at that place where shame no longer dominates and the need to hide or cover the self subsides, and we anticipate to hear HIM walking in the cool of the day.
The loud voice of disobedience silenced and the need for sensual satisfactions diminished. All the soul currently yearns for is to hear HIM walking in the cool of the day.
We are left to fight through this topsy-turvy mess on earth and in spite of The Fall, HE has promised to give us life and that more abundantly. We can tap into The Garden of Eden and stay there, listening to HIM, enjoying HIM “in the cool of the day.”
All the hot and contested situations, all troubles and anxieties are banished when we un-shame ourselves and meet HIM where HE is walking, “in the cool of the day.”
My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”
And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”(NLT)
For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.”
